Membership changes and renewals

Each member of your organisation must have at least one membership within your organisation - it is possible for members to have more than one membership if your rules allow that.
You can add, renew, expire or remove a membership for a member by either selecting a set of members from the View Members screen (see Finding Members) and select the appropriate membership action, or when viewing a single member (see Viewing Member's Details) dealing with membership from the Membership tab.
Each membership has a Membership Type, which your administrator can change from the Membership Settings screen (see Organisation Settings for Membership Details). In organisations such as the UK Scout Association, this might be a type such as 'Youth Member', 'Leader' or 'Helper'. Membership also has a membership status, which is calculated automatically depending on the settings for the Membership Type (again see Organisation Settings for Membership Details).
For some membership types, membership can expire (e.g. an annual membership which expires at the end of December) - in this case, the membership will become an inactive membership. Membership status is recalculated regularly and is updated on the member's details screen. Note that when searching for members, normally memberships which are not active are not included in the search results.
When renewing memberships, the renewal is added to the end of the membership which is being renewed. If that membership has expired, the membership is renewed from the date of expiry, otherwise it is renewed from the next expiry date. From the Membership tab in the Member Details page, membership can be managed in fine details, if that is necessary.
